See that red strip of land? That is Öland! And if you're put off by the Swedish spelling, here is a link to help you learn pronounce the name of this BEAUTIFUL island:
Visiting Öland is like travelling back in time. The moment you cross the bridge, "Ölandsbron," a magnificent sight in itself and the most common way to reach the island - you are leaving modern, hectic life behind. Park somewhere, step out of the car and take a deep breath: you're home.
Öland is easily accessible, crossing the bridge is free and if you would rather take the ferry and reach the northern part of the island, it will cost you 550 skr if you want to bring your car along with friends or family. It is the perfect holiday island in all its simplicity. Wherever you,
you are never more than a few kilometres away from the nearest beach, and the beaches are magnificent! just see for yourself, this was taken on the East Coast in July.

Your kids will love running around and while they build castles of sand you can let go
of your worries and just relax.
26.000 people live permanently on the island and its "capital" Borgholm will be introduced to you in a separate post. But I promise you that if you come here once, you will always want to return.
